Ayurvedic Treatment for Lower Back Pain and Balancing Vata Dosha
Ayurvedic therapists use this treatment to offer relief from various spinal disorders.
Duration
45-60 minutes
Best For
Back Pain
“Kati” is the Sanskrit word for waist or lower back. “Basti”, on the other hand, means retaining. This treatment procedure is called Kati Basti, as it works on the patient’s lower back by retaining heated, medicated oil on it. The treatment can offer relief from various lower back issues. The procedure takes around 30 to 45 minutes to complete, which should be followed by at least an hour’s rest.
Ideal For:
1
The patient needs to lie down on a wooden plank with his/her face down. The lower back of the patient must remain exposed.
A dough is prepared using a paste prepared from soaked black gram. The therapist places the dough on the patient’s lumbosacral area to create a reservoir.
2
The therapist heats around 300 ml of medicated oil, and when the oil is lukewarm, he pours it into the dough reservoir.
3
Oil removal begins after 35 to 45 minutes. The therapist carefully removes the oil and dough and performs a gentle massage on the treated area.
4
Always consult an Ayurvedic doctor before undergoing Kati Basti, regardless of whether you have any of the above health issues.
